Weaving Baskets in Botswana

Women of the Bayei and Hambukushu tribal groups painstakingly create this art from ‘mokola’ palm tree fiber coil woven around grass or vine. The bark and roots from 2 different trees are used to make the dye colors, as are decomposing sorghum husks and shrub leaves.

My baskets arrived safely on Friday. They are all wonderful, all of the highest workmanship. All I can say about the beaded copper basket is WOW. It is absolutely fabulous. When I hold that basket up to the light and look at the bottom of it, it looks like very fine lace.
