Autumn Art Bukedo & Raffia Basket
Bring rich, graphic color and traditional African craftsmanship into your home with our Autumn Art Bukedo & Raffia Basket. Handwoven by skilled artisans in Uganda, this striking basket combines natural Bukedo with raffia to create a beautifully structured piece of functional art.
The Autumn Art color way features a warm rust-red center framed by bold black and natural ivory detailing. The geometric pattern radiates outward from the center, giving the basket a graphic, modern look while celebrating traditional hand-weaving techniques.
Its shallow bowl shape makes it beautiful as a tabletop centerpiece, fruit basket, catch-all, or decorative display. The intricate pattern also makes it striking enough to display as wall décor when not in use.
Each basket is handmade under fair trade standards. Natural materials and handwoven construction mean that slight variations in color, pattern, weave, shape, and dimensions are part of each basket's unique character.

Weaving Details
Weavers construct these baskets by wrapping colorfully dyed palm raffia around a coil of bukedo, the local term in Uganda for banana leaf stalks. The large banana leaf stalks are pulled apart into long, thin strips, then dried, and then bundled into coils and wrapped with raffia.
Weavers must skillfully extend more bukedo onto the coils as they weave, in order to maintain the consistency of the coil’s size and shape. Each coil is then wrapped or occasionally stitched to the adjacent coil.
