Blue and Natural Ghana Hand Fans
Cool air and cool color in one handwoven piece, the blue and natural Ghana hand fan is as pretty on the wall as it is in your hand.
Artisans in Ghana hand-weave and hand-dye each fan from durable vetiver grass, then finish it with a sturdy leather handle for a comfortable grip. This is the blue and natural colorway. Every fan is handmade and fairly traded, and each one is one of a kind.
Keep it by the porch swing for warm days, tuck it in a bag for travel, or hang a few together as woven wall decor and a genuine conversation piece.
You will receive one blue and natural grass fan. Please note that a color that looks black on screen is actually dark blue.
Product Size: Approximately 10 to 12 Inches in Diameter x 15 to 17 Inches Long

Weaving Details
Weavers collect veta vera straw, which is at the top of the grass known locally as kinkahe, leaving the grass roots in the soil to regrow. Then each piece is split in half vertically.
Each half of the split straw is then strengthened by rolling it into a tight twist.
The straw is put in bunches and dyed in boiling water. For bright colors the straw is dyed yellow first, then the color.

Weaving Bolga baskets in Ghana
For many generations, weaving has been a traditional skill of the Gurune people of northern Ghana. Mostly done by women, basket weaving and other handicrafts supplement these subsistence farmers’ incomes.
