Bukedo & Raffia Purple Bowl
Bring rich color, natural texture, and handcrafted artistry into your home with our Purple Raffia Fruit Basket. Handwoven by skilled artisans using sustainably harvested raffia palm, this striking basket features a beautiful woven pattern in deep purple and rich blue tones.
The bold colorway gives the traditional raffia basket a fresh, modern feel while allowing the texture and craftsmanship of the handwoven construction to stand out. Its generous shallow silhouette makes it a versatile piece of functional art.
Use it as a fruit bowl, tabletop centerpiece, catch-all, decorative display, or wall basket. At approximately 16" across, it also makes a beautiful statement on a dining table, kitchen island, coffee table, or retail display.
Each basket is thoughtfully handmade under fair trade standards, supporting artisan communities across Africa. Because every piece is woven by hand using natural materials, slight variations in color, pattern, weave, shape, and dimensions are part of its unique artisan character.
Dimensions: Approx. 16" diameter x 3–4" deep
Materials: Raffia
Material Details: Raffia is a renewable, zero-waste, biodegradable fiber harvested from the raffia palm. It can be gathered multiple times per year without harming the tree and requires no pesticides to grow. Durable and naturally beautiful, raffia offers a sustainable alternative to synthetic materials.

Weaving Details
Weavers construct these baskets by wrapping colorfully dyed palm raffia around a coil of bukedo, the local term in Uganda for banana leaf stalks. The large banana leaf stalks are pulled apart into long, thin strips, then dried, and then bundled into coils and wrapped with raffia.
Weavers must skillfully extend more bukedo onto the coils as they weave, in order to maintain the consistency of the coil’s size and shape. Each coil is then wrapped or occasionally stitched to the adjacent coil.
