Extra Large Bolga Decorative Teal Basket
A cultural showpiece as much as a vessel, this extra large Bolga basket has a rounded, urn-like silhouette with a gently tapered neck.
Handwoven in Bolgatanga, Ghana, where basketry is passed down through generations of weavers, it brings a striking presence to a shelf, mantel, or side table. Every basket is handmade and fairly traded, and each is genuinely one of a kind.
Beautiful on its own, it also works as a statement planter, a home for throw blankets, or a piece of collectible textile art.
You will receive one handwoven basket very similar to the one pictured, approximately 17 inches wide by 20 inches tall.

Weaving Details
Weavers collect veta vera straw, which is at the top of the grass known locally as kinkahe, leaving the grass roots in the soil to regrow. Then each piece is split in half vertically.
Each half of the split straw is then strengthened by rolling it into a tight twist.
The straw is put in bunches and dyed in boiling water. For bright colors the straw is dyed yellow first, then the color.
