Masterweave Binga Bowl-14
Small enough for a shelf and bright enough to notice, this 6 to 8 inch Binga bowl is a jewel-size piece of Zimbabwe's Tonga weaving.
These baskets are woven by Tonga artisans along Lake Kariba in the Binga district of Zimbabwe. Strips of palm leaf are woven through radials of creeper vine, and some strips are dyed a deep brown with bark and roots to build the bold, geometric patterns Binga bowls are known for. Traditionally the shape was used to winnow grain. Every bowl is handmade and fairly traded, so your purchase supports the weaver directly.
Use it as a small decorative bowl or a catchall for keys and jewelry, or hang it in a cluster of smaller Binga bowls.
You will receive the exact bowl pictured (item 105330), a one-of-a-kind 6 to 8 inch piece. Dimensions are approximate, accurate within about half an inch, so please check the size carefully before purchase.
