Masterweave Binga Bowl-23
A generous 10 to 12 inch across, this Binga bowl is a true winnowing basket, the shallow form Tonga women have used to sift grain for generations.
These baskets are woven by Tonga artisans along Lake Kariba in the Binga district of Zimbabwe. Strips of palm leaf are woven through radials of creeper vine, and some strips are dyed a deep brown with bark and roots to build the bold, geometric patterns Binga bowls are known for. Traditionally the shape was used to winnow grain. Every bowl is handmade and fairly traded, so your purchase supports the weaver directly.
Hang it as a striking piece of wall art, or lay it flat as a shallow decorative bowl. Its size makes it a natural centerpiece for a Binga gallery wall.
You will receive the exact bowl pictured (item 105355), a one-of-a-kind 10 to 12 inch piece. Dimensions are approximate, accurate within about half an inch, so please check the size carefully before purchase.
