Njulu Open Weave Earth Bowl-12
Light and lacy, the Njulu open weave leaves airy gaps between its coils for a delicate, see-through look.
Handwoven in Uganda from dyed palm raffia wrapped over a bukedo (banana-stalk) core, the open Njulu weave is worked more loosely than a solid bowl, catching the light. Every bowl is handmade and fairly traded, and each is one of a kind.
Hang it as an airy piece of woven wall art or group several for a textural gallery wall.
You will receive one bowl very similar to the one pictured. Dust gently; keep out of prolonged damp.
Product Size: Approximately 11.5-12.5 Inches Wide x 2.5-3.5 Inches Deep
Material: Banana Leaf Stalk, Palm

Weaving Details
Weavers construct these baskets by wrapping colorfully dyed palm raffia around a coil of bukedo, the local term in Uganda for banana leaf stalks. The large banana leaf stalks are pulled apart into long, thin strips, then dried, and then bundled into coils and wrapped with raffia.
Weavers must skillfully extend more bukedo onto the coils as they weave, in order to maintain the consistency of the coil’s size and shape. Each coil is then wrapped or occasionally stitched to the adjacent coil.
