Ukhamba-1
The Ukhamba is the classic lidded Zulu basket, and smaller pieces like this are sometimes called beer baskets.
Handwoven from ilala palm in Zululand, South Africa, ilala baskets are still used for liquid storage in some rural areas; a watertight basket is readied by rubbing wet cornmeal inside. These pieces are all-natural, with dyes made from flower petals and mud. Every Ukhamba is handmade and fairly traded, and each is one of a kind.
Display it as collectible woven art or use it for dry storage.
You will receive one basket very similar to the one pictured. Dust gently; keep out of prolonged damp.
